International Women’s Day, March 8

Hanna Putz (featured in the first slide of this preview) nurtured her awareness as a photographer, starting out as a model in front of the camera. Echoing Sontag’s sentiment, she has looked for ways to shake up the “permanent posing” of her generation. In creating portraits of friends who had recently given birth to their first children, she noticed a remarkable shift in awareness. “Their attention is mainly on their child, and [they] are also in some kind of a transitional phase, as they are adjusting to the new role that has just been given to them,” said Putz in an interview with BJP.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Newsweek & The Daily Beast features work from 15 talented women who represent a range of remarkable awareness as lovers, daughters, mothers, and foremost artists.

A speech by controversial artist Christo Javacheff capped off the recent Five College Riverscaping conference. Christo’s work has received praise from art critics, but has also been criticized for causing environmental side effects. His most recent project, “Over the River,” proposes suspending translucent fabric panels, pictured above, over 5.9 miles of the Arkansas River.

A burning bush outside Tyler Annex during Easter Weekend.

Thursday, April 20, 4:10 p.m.

An officer and NFD were dispatched for a report of a bush on fire at Tyler Annex. Prior to their arrival, a person had used a fire extinguisher and a bucket of water to put out the fire. There was no visible damage to the building. The cause may have been from a cigarette that was not properly disposed of.

Improper cigarette disposal? Or maybe something more…
